New Offering is Key to Company’s SAFE Strategic Vision to Meet Critical Customer Need for Comprehensive Lifecycle Management
San Mateo, CA – June 21, 2004 – SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRNA), the largest company solely focused on managing change throughout the application lifecycle, today announced its acquisition of the technology, assets, associated expertise and customer base for Integrated Chipware’s RTM product, one of the industry’s leading requirements management solutions. The new technology will deliver an essential bridge among the various processes that are automated and integrated by the Serena Application Framework for Enterprises (SAFE™), making it an important part of the company’s comprehensive Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution portfolio.
“The deliverables of any project are driven by changing business requirements, making requirements management a critical aspect for controlling the overall application lifecycle,” said Mark Woodward, president and CEO of SERENA Software, Inc. “The acquisition of RTM addresses an essential component of our SAFE strategic vision, giving us proven technology and valuable expertise which will accelerate implementation of an integrated SAFE requirements management solution.”
RTM (Requirements & Traceability Management) is a powerful and elegant solution for requirements engineering and design traceability that delivers the flexibility, scalability and ease of use necessary to address a broad range of enterprise projects. Serena will provide full product support and maintenance to the existing RTM customer base, which includes Lockheed Martin, TRW, Federal Express, SBC and a range of others. More importantly, the addition of this technology into Serena’s ALM offerings will enable new and existing customers to not only capture and manage business requirements, but also to control the associated change and quality assurance processes across the entire enterprise.
“The requirements management market has been steadily increasing year-to-year as more organizations realize that aligning IT with corporate objectives is essential to the success of a business. Requirements management is the starting point from which software quality is based,” said Jim Duggan, vice president at Gartner, Inc. “Traditional software change management vendors looking to enhance the value they deliver throughout the broader application development lifecycle will do well to look at making requirements management a core element of their solution offering.”
